June 2015:

Successful and productive meeting with all partners to discuss future progress for the next 6 months. Research plans put into place and dissemination events discussed. Date of first citizen workshop to be announced soon.

At the end of June, Cardiff University and a local community group (Friends of Nant Fawr) organised an event called Nant Fawr Stream Shuffle, to encourage local children to look at aquatic stream diversity. This was a very successful public engagement event and many people attended.

Another successful public engagement for Cardiff University! This day was organised as part of the 'Living Graveyards' project; the pictures below were taken on the day.

First session of eDNA sampling took place early in July. We were treated to lovely weather and saw a range of aquatic species including trout, minnow and salmon.

Second day of eDNA sampling also a success! Some really beautiful sites were sampled and the weather stayed gorgeous as well.

February 2016

Fast-forward to February and the cluster has been very busy with experiments and sampling. There have been a number of infection experiments undertaken at Cardiff and Swansea University over the last few months and the round-up meeting of Aquawales academic partners in December was very successful. There have been a number of collaborations established with local angling groups as part of the invasive species PhD project and a new Aquawales PhD student started at Aberystwyth University in September meaning the Aquawales cluster is now full and thriving.
